The potential client completes the application form (21SF001) in full, which is then registered with the relevant Sales Manager.
Formal Contact & Allocation Confirmation
The Sales Manager formally contacts the organization to confirm that the Enquiry has been allocated to the Appropriate person for further analysis.
Client Engagement for Additional Information
The Sales Manager engages with the client to obtain any further details required to proceed

Initial Contact
The visit or email explains the certification scheme and collects essential client information to enable proper planning and costing of audits.
Information Gathering
The client provides necessary details about their organization.
Application Completion
The client completes the application form with all required information.

Application Review Process

Technical Reviewer

Technical Reviewer conducts application and supplementary information review for Certification. Ensure competency and capability for certification activity. Consider scope, client operations sites, audit time, and influencing factors (language, safety, impartiality threats, etc.).

If application is accepted

TR develops audit programme up to Recertification Phase and Audit Duration Calculation

If application is declined

Reasons are documented and communicated to applicant by Sales Manager.

Sales team keeps relevant records of declined applications.

Financial Non-Compliance

Outstanding fees from previous certification activities.

Previous Denial

Previous denial of certification for similar reasons.

Missing Information

Failure to provide necessary information or documentation.

Misrepresentation

Unlawful use or misrepresentation of the SABS Mark.

Lack of Competence

Failure to meet management system certification standards.

Non-Compliance

SABS lacks the capability to provide certification.

Certification Decision

Documentation

Ensure all audit documents meet requirements.

Technical Review Team Recommendation

The reviewers check the documents for compliance and completeness. The auditor formally recommends certification.

Decision Making

The Decision maker concludes the final certification outcome.

Maintaining Certification

First Surveillance Audit

Initial assessment of the management system's effectiveness.

Second Surveillance Audit

Further evaluation to ensure continued compliance.

Recertification Audit

Comprehensive review to grant renewed certification.

Your product must fall within a SABS/SANS national specification
The product is then fully tested to the specification
Your quality system is assessed to ISO 9001 or specific permit conditions
If the product and quality system comply with the requirements, a permit to apply the mark is issued

Regular product testing is conducted throughout the year, and feedback of test results is given
Assessments of your quality system are made at least twice per year, and full reports are issued
