Young Professionals Presentation

The IEC Young professionals’ (YPs) programme was started by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 2010, targeting engineers working in industry in the age group early 20s to mid- 30s, with the aim of ensuring the technical work of the IEC would be future-proofed with a growing number of a new generation of technical experts familiar with standardization and the role of the IEC.

Since 2013, the South African National Committee (SANC) of the IEC has been organizing, annually, a competition to selected two candidates to be proposed to the IEC to attend the international IEC young professional programme, co-located with the IEC general meeting. This year these events will be hosted by the Russian National Committee in Vladivostok.

The interest in the competition and in the local South African Chapter of IEC Young Professionals has been growing each year. This year, after reviewing some 122 responses to an on-line survey/questionnaire, 27 local YPs were invited to submit essays. The closing date is 19 May 2017

The SAIEE has been actively supporting this initiative since 2013, through sponsorship for travel of one or more candidates who have SAIEE membership.

A workshop for the IEC Young Professionals in South Africa, will be hosted by the SABS on 9 June 2017, where the two candidates who were considered overall the best for proposing to IEC as our candidates for the 2017 international IEC young professionals programme will be announced.
