BBBEE or Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment is a drive by the government to encourage companies to empower black people through, amongst others:

  • Black ownership, management and employment equity
  • Skills development of black employees
  • Procurement of raw materials, products and services from companies with a good BBBEE rating.
  • Investing in black enterprises
  • Assisting the black community through socio-economic projects

The Codes of Good Conduct on Black Economic Empowerment published in Government Gazette 59617 on 9th February 2007 provide the framework for companies to be rated.


This certificate is the result of an independent and impartial verification of the BBBEE status of the South African Bureau of Standards measured against the Codes of Good Practice on Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment. The objective of the verification is to verify the validity and accuracy of the BBBEE status represented by the SABS. Download certificate here
